Web vs Desktop Version
USTAAD Typing Academy is available in both a web version and a desktop version. Both versions offer the same core features — including full access to all typing courses, lessons, practice exercises, and official completion certificates. The main difference between them is how and where your data is stored.
Web Version
The web version lets you start practicing immediately — no installation needed. Just open your browser, visit the website, and begin typing.
Key Benefits
- No installation required
- Accessible from any device with a browser (computer, tablet, or phone)
- Quick and easy to get started
- Full access to all courses, lessons, and certificates
Limitations
- Requires an active internet connection at all times
- No offline access
Data Storage
The web version saves all your progress, results, and settings in your browser's local storage — meaning the data lives inside your browser on your current device.
- ✅ Your progress loads automatically the next time you open the web version in the same browser
- ✅ No account or server login needed to save your data
- ❌ Clearing browser cache or data will permanently delete your progress
- ❌ Uninstalling or resetting your browser will erase all saved data
- ❌ Your data is tied to one specific browser on one specific device — it will not carry over to a different browser or device
The web version stores your progress in browser local storage only. This data is not backed up to any server. Clearing browser data, switching browsers, or uninstalling your browser will permanently delete all your typing progress and results with no way to recover them. If you want long-term, reliable data storage, consider using the desktop version.

Desktop Version
The desktop version is a dedicated Windows application that gives you a full offline typing experience with better performance and more reliable long-term data storage.
Key Benefits
- Works completely offline after the initial setup
- Faster performance and smoother experience
- Full access to all courses, lessons, and certificates
- Better suited for long or regular practice sessions
- Your progress is stored safely on your device, independent of any browser
Requirements
- Windows operating system
- An internet connection is only needed once — to download the app and courses
Data Storage
The desktop version saves all your progress, results, and settings in a dedicated file on your device, completely separate from the application itself. This means your data is not tied to the app installation.
- ✅ Your data persists even if you uninstall USTAAD Typing
- ✅ Reinstalling the app later will automatically restore all your previous progress
- ✅ Data is completely unaffected by any browser changes, cache clears, or browser resets
- ✅ Your data stays safe as long as your Windows user profile and files are intact
- ❌ Data is only removed if you manually delete your account from inside the app, or if you reinstall your operating system (Windows)
The desktop version saves your progress in a separate file on your device, independent of the application itself. Even if you uninstall and reinstall USTAAD Typing, your results will still be there. Your data is only ever removed when you choose to delete your account manually from inside the app, or when you reinstall your Windows operating system.

Both versions give you the same learning experience and the same certificates — the choice is about convenience vs. reliability.
